Claudia Devens, RDH
Claudia grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and discovered a love for science, music, and the ocean. She received her education in dental hygiene at Diablo Valley College. Rob, her husband of more than 30 years, accepted a job in La Crosse, Wisconsin. They and their three daughters made the move to the beautiful Midwest, where they spent 16 years.
During those years, Claudia’s career focus transitioned from working in general dentistry to working in periodontics within the Department of Dental Specialties in a large medical center. It was in La Crosse that she obtain a Master of Science in Community Health Education at the University of Wisconsin, La Crosse. An opportunity to join the faculty of the dental hygiene department at Oregon Institute of Technology brought Claudia and Rob back to the west coast. She spent seven years as an assistant professor, teaching in the classroom and in the clinical setting. Currently, she serves as a part-time clinical instructor at Oregon Tech.
Working in Butte Valley has brought Claudia back into clinical practice, a role that she has always loved. She describes many of the patients she has worked with as, “some of the finest people I have known.” The drive to Dorris from Klamath Falls allows her to see the majesty of Mt. Shasta from what she describes as the most beautiful viewpoint. She enjoys dancing, especially with her favorite dance partner, Rob. They enjoy cooking together and experimenting with new combinations of flavors. Music and singing are also some of her loves, along with her five grandchildren.
